About the Hall
St Margaret South Elmham Village Hall has been the heart of our community since its construction in the 1950s. Remarkably, the hall was built primarily by the village residents themselves, reflecting the strong community spirit that continues to thrive here today.
Over the decades, the hall has hosted countless celebrations and events, including weddings, christenings, birthdays, wakes, jubilees, and Royal occasions. Unlike many halls built in the same era, this one was constructed using concrete, ensuring its longevity. The beautiful wooden floor, a favorite feature among dance groups, was skillfully laid by a local carpenter who was also a resident of the village. The land on which the hall stands was generously donated by a local farmer, adding to its unique story of community collaboration.
The hall is managed by a dedicated charity that includes representatives from the groups who use the facility, as well as elected committee members. This collaborative approach ensures that the hall continues to serve the evolving needs of our community.
Among the most popular events are the annual Harvest Lunch and Christmas Lunch, both of which are typically fully booked well in advance. To accommodate the growing range of activities, two outdoor storage units were added in the past 15 years to house surplus chairs and tables, freeing up space inside the hall for events such as dancing and badminton.
St Margaret South Elmham Village Hall is a vibrant hub for a variety of activities, including flower arranging workshops, quizzes, bingo, elections, and, of course, dancing. Whether you're attending an event or planning your own, the hall offers a welcoming space that continues to bring people together, just as it has for generations.
